Makhachkala, May 23, 2014. On May 22, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum attracting over 5,000 people fr om more than 60 countries - well-known politicians, businessmen, and experts fr om different Russian regions and foreign countries – started in St. Petersburg. Many say that the forum has been the main platform to discuss Russian economy for the past 10 years. At the opening ceremony, Daghestan was presented by the deputy Prime Minister Arthur Sibekov and the minister of trade, investment and entrepreneurship Yussuf Umavov.
The forum features round tables, discussions, joint meetings of the Economic Council and the Investment Council at the St. Petersburg governor. The forum’s program revolves around the key topics: "Retrieving the balance to stimulate growth: risk management", "Fulfilling Russia’s competitive potential", "Managing breakthrough technologies and adapting to changes". They also plan a series of meetings with young leaders mottoed "Conversations shaping the future".
On the first day, a number of companies signed cooperation agreements. E.g., the "Summa" group of Daghestan businessman Ziyavudin Magomedov signed an agreement with the French Veolia Environnement holding. Operating in 40 countries, Veolia specializes in housing and utilities. The 2 companies plan to develop joint projects in water supply, sanitation, waste collection and disposal.
Today, the "Rostelecom" company presented the first public Internet search engine named "Sputnik" (sputnik.ru).
As noted by Yussuf Umavov, participation in the forum allows them to adopt a positive experience of other regions and countries to implement critical projects in Daghestan. "The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is a platform wh ere participants sign major agreements, wh ere CEOs of the world's leading economies can discuss issues of global economic policy, including those of international trade, investment, infrastructure and employment. I have learned a lot of useful information because I find answers to many questions as for how to build a state policy in investment, trade and entrepreneurship," the minister said.
