Dagestan leads in footwear production among Russian regions, the analysts of the state labeling system "Honest Sign" say. The analysts have compiled a ranking of regions based on their footwear production for the year 2023.

Dagestan stands out as the leader in this category. As to Nizam Khalilov, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Dagestan, Dagestani footwear production has grown by 30% in recent years. Nowadays, the region produces up to 6 million pairs per year.

Most of these shoes are distributed domestically. According to Nizam Khalilov, the departure of foreign brands from the Russian market has had a natural impact on production, but there are some nuances to consider.

The top official explained that firstly, some consumers still have access to brands through marketplaces, and secondly, there are certain types of footwear that have not been produced in the country in the past, such as sneakers. Khalilov noted that while Russia has excellent shoe and boot production, the production of certain types of sneakers has not yet reached the desired level.
