A sports and recreation center for 1,500 spectators has been opened in Dagestani village of Akhty. It is one of the largest sports complexes in Russia located in a mountainous area. The complex is designed for volleyball, basketball, mini-football, weightlifting, boxing and various types of wrestling.

The size and level of the new sports center will allow to host not only republican but also all-Russian tournaments, as well as training camps for athletes. The two-storey building with stands has a usable area of 3 thousand square meters. The cost of the sports complex in Akhty exceeded 147 million rubles, the largest part of which - 135.7 million rubles was provided by the Federal Centre.

The construction of the sports complex will give a boost to development of the municipal district, experts say.
