As to statistics provided by the Main Department of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Dagestan, the main cause of car accidents in the region is driving on the wrong lane. In the first three months of 2024, more than 300 accidents occurred, 70 people lost their lives including 4 children.

In terms of road accident mortality, Dagestan ranked fifth out of 46 Russian Federation regions, with the number of fatalities rising after Krasnodar Krai, Moscow Region, Rostov Region and the Republic of Bashkortostan. In terms of child fatalities, Dagestan became the first region to record such incidents.
