As to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulmuslimov, sheep breeding is a traditional craft of Dagestanis in the countryside. Dagestan has a quarter of Russia's sheep population and produces more than 14.5 thousand tons of wool per year. In 2024-2026 the republic plans to create several wool processing enterprises united into a wool cluster.

"We will have our own primary wool processing industry, our own manufacture of tops and threads. The decision has been made; a wool cluster is being created in our region. The representatives of Pushkinsky Textile JSC from Moscow region and Morshanskaya textile factory from Tombov region have recently arrived in Dagestan to examine the situation. These factories possess all the appropriate machines. They expressed readiness to launch the production of fabric and threads in the republic. Earlier they wanted to deal with Greek producers of wool but having analyzed the market they decided to develop relations with Dagestan" -Abdulmuslimov said.
