Dagestan authorities expect 6.4% growth in rail passenger traffic in 2024. According to the regional Ministry of Transport, a total of 1.65 million passengers are expected to use the services of railway transport this year. In 2023 this figure made 1.55 million, in 2022 - 1.4 million and in 2021 - 1.1 million passengers. Thus, in order to meet the increased passenger flow, in 2023 Dagestan authorities increased the rolling stock running on the Khasavyurt-Makhachkala-Derbent route from 4 to 6 carriages. Additionally, a daily all-year-round service will be launched on the Makhachkala-Derbent route with an extra pair of carriages.
