Makhachkala, August 13, 2014. Russia, in response to Western sanctions, banned the import of agricultural goods from the EU countries. As to the Interim head of the regional executive committee of Daghestan regional branch of the “United Russia" political party Ullubiy Erbolatov, the sanctions have become a good chance for the local producers to expand their production on the agricultural market, including in the Republic of Daghestan, producing top quality environmentally agricultural goods.

"Before, the local farmers could not sell their products as they could hardly compete on the commercial market with cheap import production and large foreign companies. The local producers had serious problems with good marketable, attractive packaging and powerful advertising campaign. However, Russian food goods are better and more ecologically pure products"- Erbolatov noted.

U. Erbolatov expressed confidence that Daghestani agricultural producers have an incentive to expand their production.

"Now they can develop the agricultural sector as well as involve young people. Daghestan has good prospects, especially for products such as vegetables and fruits. Besides, the republic has large reserves to produce meat, milk, fish and many other foods, "- U. Erbolatov concluded.
