Dagestani judokas to perform at European club championships

Makhachkala, December 18, 2014. Five Dagestani judokas will perform at the European club championships titled "Golden League" which is scheduled to run in Samara December 20, says the official website the Russian Judo Federation.

At the tournament held in the line fight format, Dagestani athletes will be representing 2 leading Russian clubs – Abdul Abdulzhalilov, Kamal Han-Magomedov, and Magomed Magomedov will perform for "Dinamo", Vladikavkaz, and Mansur Issaev and Renat Saidov will be representing "Yawara", St. Petersburg.

The European club championships, previously known as the European Cup, were first organized in 1960. Last year, the tournament was held in Paris.

This year’s novelty is that the tournament concept has changed – it will be held on two sites simultaneously - in Russia and the Netherlands. Samara will welcome 8 men’s and 7 women's strongest teams – the Golden League of the club judo who had qualified at the 2013 championships in Paris; the other clubs who had fallen short of qualifying for the elite, will be competing on the same day in the Netherlands. The reason for the split in 2 is a great number of participants. As a result, 15 teams will be competing in Samara, and 29 teams will go to Dutch Hoofddorp.
