A neurosurgical center for the treatment of patients with drug-resistant forms of epilepsy will be opened in Makhachkala. This was reported at the press service in the regional Public Health Ministry.

The issues of implementation of the pilot project were discussed at the meeting of the Public Health Minister Tatyana Belyaeva with a delegation of the country's leading neurosurgeons led by the chief freelance neurosurgeon of the Russian Federation Ministry of Public Health Vladimir Krylov.

“The purpose of our visit is the participation of neurosurgeons and neurologists in a pilot project to organize surgical care for patients with so-called forms of drug-resistant epilepsy. The second is assistance in the work of the regional vascular center. And the third task is the participation of federal neurosurgeons in the implementation of a pilot project on cancer care for patients in the Northern Caucasus.

In general, we want the Republican Hospital - the neurosurgery department - and the entire neurological service to become one of the centers for helping patients with epilepsy in the Northern Caucasus. There are enough trained personnel, well-equipped operating and diagnostic facilities that can solve these problems” - Vladimir Krylov said. Belyaeva thanked the guests for their assistance and decision to implement a pilot project in Dagestan. In addition, the department head raised the issue of strengthening children's neurosurgical care.
