Dagestan starts purchasing expensive drugs for HIV-infected

The republic of Dagestan started to receive an additional batch of expensive drugs for antiretroviral therapy for HIV infection. The medicines are purchased at the request of the Republican Center for Infectious Diseases, Prevention and Control of AIDS with the support of the Public Health Ministry at the expense of the republican budget.

A batch of Tivikay drugs has already arrived in Dagestan. The purchase of the medicine "Eviplera" is in progress. More than 15 names of modern antiviral drugs are used for continuous antiretroviral therapy.

In the Republic of Dagestan 1,987 people are registered with HIV infection, of which 73.2% receive lifelong highly active antiretroviral therapy. The number of patients receiving life-saving antiretroviral therapy is increasing every year.

Until 2019, antiretroviral therapy for HIV-infected people was funded by the federal budget. However, in recent years, the supply of antiretroviral drugs under the federal budget, according to requests from the regions, has not been made in full.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the regional Public Health Ministry of purchased medicine worth more than 1.1 million rubles for continuous treatment of HIV-infected people. At the expense of its own funds, the State Budgetary Institution “RCID and AIDS” purchased another big batch of medicines to let the patients able to continue their treatment.
