Dagestan surgeons apply new method of treating brain tumor
A woman came to the RCH with severe persistent headaches; during examination, she was found to have a large tumor (meningioma), which was intensively supplied with blood by large vessels. The patient underwent surgery, during which the surgeons removed part of the meningioma. The second stage of the operation was postponed due to the risk of high blood loss. Besides, the doctors decided to embolize the supplying vessels of the brain. ⠀
“A medical team performed the patient's endovascular embolization of vasculature of the meningioma in the head. So, the doctors went through the vessels directly into the tumor tissue and saturated them with a special adhesive composition that works like lava. Once in the vessels, the drug solidifies along the periphery, but inside it remains liquid” - the press release of the regional Public Health Ministry runs. ⠀
At the next stage of the operation, the neurosurgeons removed the tumor almost bloodlessly. Currently, the patient feels well, she is clear-minded and without complications after surgery.
