Derbent and Nizhny Novgorod have signed an agreement to establish twinning relations between the cities. Both cities have many common areas in which cooperation can be developed. These include architecture, urban planning and landscaping. The agreement implies mutual interest in developing bilateral relations in various spheres such as trade, economy, production, social sphere, education, culture and tourism.
