Scientists from Hungary study Kumyk folklore in Dagestan

Makhachkala, June 19, 2018. The guests fr om Hungary have visited the village of Geli located in Karabudakhkentsky district of Dagestan. They recorded songs performed by the male chorus named after Agay Kaplanov, the press service of the municipality reports.

The musicologist-ethnologist Agoc Gergeli and scholar-turkologist Davut Kara, who study Kumyk musical folklore, visit Dagestan for the second time. In 2014 they managed to collect samples of old Kumyk melodies for the realization of their own cultural project.

The scientists are convinced on communion of  the musical culture of the Magyar Hungarians and the Turkic peoples. It is noteworthy that the time of the guests' stay coincided with the holiday of Uraza-Bairam, wh ere they had a unique opportunity to participate in the celebratory events and ceremonies.
