"Poetry of the national costume" festival kicks off held in Dagestan

Makhachkala, June 22, 2018. The concert-defile "Poetry of the national costume" opened yesterday June 21 in Makhachkala within the framework of the VIII International Forum of Folklore and Traditional Culture "Highlanders".
According to the organizers, the traditional project "Poetry of the national costume" familiarizes the guests and participants of the cultural forum with the traditional clothes of not only the multinational Dagestan, but also the peoples of the world who took part in the festival.

This year, as part of the project, the national costumes of guests from Slovakia, Poland, Romania and the representatives of Russia's regions: Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Leningrad, Lipetsk, Kursk and Penza regions were demonstrated to the audience.
Besides, the creative groups from North Ossetia-Alania, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, Chechen Republic and Stavropol Territory came to participate in the Interregional Festival of Folk Art "Caucasus – Strong Family". In total this year more than 60 costumes of the peoples of Dagestan and about 100 guests of the festival were presented.

The deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Dagestan, the director of the House of Representatives, Marita Mugadova, said that the "Poetry of the National Costume" was one of the most important projects of the festival. "Many of the costumes that you see are still carefully stored in grandmothers’ chests, many are sewn on the models of authentic costumes, but both have great artistic and aesthetic value" - Mugadova explained.

The original national costumes were presented by the keepers of the national clothes – the participants of folk groups from Babajurtovsky, Levashinsky, Dahadayevsky, Sergokalinsky, Charodinsky, Tsumadinsky, Tsuntinsky, Khunzakhsky, Kulinsky, Akushinsky, Kaitagsky, Tabasaransky districts, as well as Makhachkala and other cities of the republic.

Recall the Festival "Highlanders" is held under the auspices of UNESCO and with support of the interim Head of Dagestan. It is organized by the Ministries of Culture of Dagestan and Russia, the State Russian and Republican People's Creative Houses as well as the Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage under Dagestan branch of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO.
