Photo exhibition dedicated to folk theaters opens in Dagestan

Makhachkala, March 30, 2019. Next week, on April 1, the National Library named after R. Gamzatov in Makhachkala will host a photo exhibition “Folk theaters of Dagestan”, the press service of the Republican House of Folk Arts informs. The event will be held within the framework of the XVII National Festival of Folk Theaters "Folk Mask" and is dedicated to the Year of Theater.

The organizer of the exhibition is the Republican House of Folk Art of the Culture Ministry RD in alliance with the National Library n.a. R. Gamzatov. The exhibition of the photo exhibition includes more than 130 photographs, each of which is a separate work of art.

The visitors can get familiarized with the folk theaters from 18 municipal districts and 5 cities of the republic of Dagestan. In total, 34 folk theaters and drama groups currently operate in Dagestan, which stage performances in both Russian and native languages (Lezgin, Dargin, Kumyk, Avar, Lak, Tabasaran, Azerbaijan and Rutul).

The event organizers pursue the idea to demonstrate the life of the highlanders, their rural life, wedding ceremonies and labor rituals to the spectators through the folk theaters.  The photography is a mirror in which one can view the history of formation and development of the folk theaters in Dagestan. The exhibition will run till April 9.
