Performance by Dagestan Theater becomes laureate of Nikolai Rybakov Festival

Makhachkala, May 25, 2018. The play staged by the Russian State Drama Theater named after M. Gorky "Does Chekhov laugh" received two awards at the contest program of the 12th Nikolai Rybakov theatrical festival which is taking place these days in Tambov.

As to the Theater press service, the performance staged by the Honored Artist of Russia Skandarbek Tulparov won in the nominations "For the Best Scenography" and "For the Best Acting Ensemble".

According to one of the actors, Magomed Surkhatilov, the jury appreciated the actors’ and director’s work. "The competent jury was composed of famous theatrical critics Nikolai Zhegin, Grigory Zaslavsky, Valery Podgorodinsky and chaired by the greatest actress Olga Yakovleva. I think this is the most valuable thing - when Dagestani theater, where national actors play, goes on an equal footing with others and there is no indulgence" - Surkhatilov said.

The Nikolai Rybakov Festival is held since 2007 with the support of the Maly Theater and the Russian Union of Theatrical Workers. This year, 13 performances were announced in the competition program.
