Residents of Dagestan Made Almost 30 Million Payments Using QR Codes

MAKHACHKALA, October 21 – RIA "Dagestan". H1 2026 retail payment metrics for Dagestan indicate a strong acceleration in digital payment adoption. QR code transaction volumes reached 29.8 million (RUB 33.4 billion), reflecting year-on-year growth rates of 19.5% in frequency and 23.4% in aggregate value.

This consumer shift is underpinned by aggressive infrastructure scaling, evidenced by a 27.6% expansion in QR-acquiring terminals, which totaled 16,700 units by July 1. Despite the rapid uptake of QR technologies, traditional payment cards retain market dominance, recording 110.5 million transactions and an RUB 88.2 billion turnover during the reporting period, underscoring a highly active and diversified regional cashless economy.
