MAKHACHKALA, February 13 – RIA “Dagestan”. Dagestan will join the global "Journey along the Great Silk Road" initiative in 2026. The Russian segment of this agricultural and tourism route will spotlight three regions—Dagestan, Kalmykia and Astrakhan Oblast—aligning with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
Visitors to Dagestan will experience a two-day immersion: Day one reveals mountainous transhumance practices, while day two highlights northern pastureland restoration projects.
Dagestan dominates in sheep husbandry and land reclamation innovations, acknowledging federal backing for expanding agricultural lands. The program positions Dagestan as a living laboratory of arid-zone farming resilience.
