MAKHACHKALA, March 13 – RIA Dagestan. Restoration efforts are ongoing in Dagestan's Khryug Forest, one of the republican largest coniferous forest areas, which sustained significant damage from a major wildfire last year.
According to Vagab Abdulkhamidov, Head of the regional Forestry Agency (Dagleskhoz), restoration work in the fire-affected Khryug Forest is carried out in phases under directives from the regional governor. The first phase was completed in November 2025, with approximately 800 trees planted. The second phase is scheduled for April 2026, during which an additional 3,500 saplings are designated for planting as part of ongoing rehabilitation efforts in one of the republic's largest coniferous forest areas.
Regional authorities also highlighted the availability of a 24/7 hotline (8-800-100-94-00) for reporting forest fires, coordinated by Dagestan Forest Fire Center. According to Dagleskhoz data, 11 forest fires were registered across the republic in 2025, with human activity and the spread of fire from neighboring territories identified as the primary causes. The phased reforestation initiative reflects the region's commitment to rehabilitating its forest resources and strengthening fire prevention measures.
