Makhachkala, October 24, 2017. Two new schools of improved seismic safety will be built to replace the old buildings of the 1940s, Kaspiysk Mayor Magomed Abdulayev said on Friday, October 20. By the end of 2017 two new schools with 500 seats each and a kindergarten for 280 places will be commissioned in the city, the Mayor’s Office reports.

This year, the biggest school in the North Caucasus designed for 1224 places had opened in Kaspiysk. Dagestani city of Kaspiysk received the status of a monotown in 2014 and was included into the federal development program.

The city authorities, as well as their republican colleagues, set the task to eliminate three-shift training and transfer the children teaching process in one shift mode. This goal was set before the interim Head of the republic Vladimir Vasilyev, by the RF Minister for Affairs of the Northern Caucasus, Lev Kuznetsov. It is planned to create 1,5 thousand additional places in schools. The funds for this are allocated from the reserve fund of the government of the Russian Federation.

Kaspiysk is a city in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, located on the Caspian Sea, 18 kilometers (11 mi) southeast of Makhachkala. The 2010 Russian census recorded the city as being the fourth-largest in Dagestan. The city is one of the newer urban centers in Dagestan. It began in 1932 as a worker's encampment, servicing the needs of the nearby naval diesel engine manufacturer, Dagdizel. At the time, it was called Dvigatelstroy based upon the Russian word for "engine". During World War II, the site saw much growth due to the war effort, and became a center for major arms producers. In 1947, the settlement received the status of a city, and was given its current name, reflecting its location on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
