Makhachkala, November 5, 2014. As part of the 19th scientific conference of Daghestan State Medical Academy, leading infectiologists from central Russian universities told the academy students about specifics of the Ebola virus.

Students heard a report about the Ebola virus. Head of the infectious diseases department with the Moscow State University Vladimir Nikiforov said that the virus is no stranger to scientists – it has been known since 1976. 1976 - 2013, they have detected 2,346 Ebola cases causing a death toll of 1,500.
The virus was detected in Sudan and near the Democratic Republic of Congo. Throughout the history, the world has seen Ebola outbreaks in 7 countries. The virus is carried by carnivorous chiropters living mostly close to the equator.

At the conference, leading doctors, professors and students also discussed the epidemiological situation on the viral hepatitis in Russia and Daghestan and reviewed the situation with AIDS, HIV, brucellosis, and rabies.

In an interview with RIA "Dagehstan", acting rector of the academy Elena Arbulieva noted that they hold conferences like every year due to their significance and relevance, because the infectious diseases rate may serve as the main index of the public welfare.
