Dagestani Head: monument to fallen journalists to be erected in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, March 23, 2017. A monument to fallen journalists funded through private donations will be erected in Makhachkala in the vicinity to the Press House in southern district of Makhachkala, , the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov wrote in his official pages in one of the social networks.

"The monument to the fallen journalists is truly a national monument, because the funds for its installation are accumulated through private donations. I call not to remain aloof from the participation in this noble affair" - Abdulatipov noted.

According to the Head of the republic, a special meeting with the republican journalists to discuss thу arising issues will be organized in the near future. Besides, the republican authorities intend to launch a major overhaul of building of the Press House.  

Noteworthy, for last 25 years 19 journalists were killed in Dagestan. Most of the crimes have not been solved yet.

The intention to erect the monument was first declared in 2013. For this, the first stone near the newspaper and magazine complex of the republic was laid. The Republican Ministry of Information and Press confirmed the information and reported on the preliminary work to determine the exact place for the construction of the monument.
