Makhachkala, October 22, 2018. Earlier, for such operations, the patients had to move to other regions of Russia. The physicians of the “Mama Patimat” republican perinatal center performed intrauterine blood transfusion for the first time in Dagestan. The introduction of such operations into practice will reduce the stillbirth rate and the number of sick and newborns prematurely born, the head physician of the medical institution Nizam Osmanov said.

According to Osmanov, earlier for such operations, the patients had to travel to other regions of the Russian Federation. "In the past, this operation seemed unreal in our conditions, so pregnant women with Rh-conflict (when mother’s immunity destroys fetal red blood cells due to the difference in Rh factor) had to travel outside the republic. Nowadays many married couples have an opportunity to give birth to a healthy child in home region", - Osmanov added.

Osmanov believes that the operation performed is a necessary condition for modern approach to the Rh-conflict pregnancy, as well as to the "treatment of hemolytic disease of the fetus (immunological conflict caused by the incompatibility of the blood of the fetus and mother for a number of antigens), which remains one of the leading causes of perinatal morbidity mortality.
