Dagestan Ministry of Tourism develops new tourist route "Way of Ancestors"

Makhachkala, November 16, 2016. The republican Ministry of Tourism and Folk Crafts together with "Shangereev Tour" LLC is developing a new tourist route "Way of Ancestors" to familiarize the tourists with the beauty of Sulak canyon, the stopping places of Alexandre Dumas, the majesty of the mountains of Ahulgo and the Chirkeyskaya reservoir, the ministry department official said.

The route "Way of Ancestors" is laid across the territory of Buinakski district of Dagestan - Buynaksk pass, the Kar-Kar basin, Kafir-Kumukh plateau, Halimbekaul, the village of Ishkarty and Lower Karanai. The touristic route runs along the ancient road that connected the mountain plains of Dagestan. It takes only half an hour to get fr om Makhachkala to Sulak canyon.

The old footpath has been widened and secured. The patron of the project Magamedkamil Dibirov uses heavy equipment and a team of workers to pave 17 kilometers of road bypassing the Gimrinsky tunnel. The road through Buinakski district will connect 17 mountain districts of the republic. In the winter months, the road will be much safer than the ascent and descent from Gimrinsky tunnel.
The travelers will admire the grandeur of the cliffs, the beauty of the emerald water, the graceful flight of eagles. They can also dine in shepherd’s lodge and go to places wh ere the famous novelist Alexandre Dumas, who visited the Caucasus in 1858, stopped.
