Makhachkala, September 29, 2016. The divers of the Russian Geographical Society’s (RGS) expedition found an object, which looked like an anchor in the Caspian Sea near the coast of Derbent. Presumably, it belongs to one of the ships flotilla of Peter the Great, - the press-secretary of the Tatarstan branch of the Russian Geographical Society Irina Sadykova says.

"The divers detected an object similar to the anchor, and a hollow cylinder, which may be part of the ship's guns," - Sadykov said, noting that the discovery was made the day before.

Recall, the Russian submarine explorers have started to search for the sunken ships flotilla of Peter the Great in Dagestan participated in the Persian campaign of 1722-1723 years.

The searching expedition composed of Dagestani scientists and representatives of the scientific community will hold a series of underwater exploration. The search party of 20 people will take pictures and videos.

In academic circles, there are several working hypotheses about the places where the sunken military ships of Peter the Great could be found. According to the one version, a part of the ships sank went down in the Caspian Sea near Derbent.
