Makhachkala, November 1, 2018. For 10 months of this year the total cargo turnover of the JSC “Makhachkala Sea Trade Port” grew by almost 184% compared to the same period of 2017.

According to the press service of the company, in January-October, Makhachkala port workers processed 2 million 077 thousand tons of liquid and dry cargo. The main share of the port's cargo turnover nowadays is crude oil. Since the beginning of the year, the port handled more than 1 million 690 thousand tons, which is 198% more than the similar figures of 2017.

The port continues to show high positive dynamics in another segment of cargo turnover. Handling of dry cargo for 10 months increased by 138.7% and amounted to more than 387 thousand tons. Grain exports remain a priority direction for the port. During the reporting period, more than 300,000 tons of grain were shipped to Iran with an increase of 180%.

“If we exclude subjective and objective factors that interfere with stable work, the port team is able to increase production figures in several times. By the way, in winter we are waiting for a significant increase in cargo turnover. In connection with the closure of navigation and the expected difficult ice situation in the ports of Astrakhan and Olya, a hot season begins for the only non-freezing port of Russia in the Caspian: many cargo owners move from the northern ports to Makhachkala in the winter months. We hope that the results of 2018 will be even more substantial for the port team” - Murad Khidirov, the director general of Makhachkala sea trade port said.

According to the director general, the company managers currently negotiate not only to increase the volume of transshipment of Kazakh oil in 2019, but also to return to the port those who previously transshipped through Makhachkala - the Turkmen companies, the PJSC “Lukoil” and the Iranian oil industry workers.
