According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the region grows more than enough rice. In 2023, there were processed 60% of the total volume of rice produced (155.8 thousand tons). The region's enterprises supply rice to the other regions of the Russian Federation, including St. Petersburg, Astrakhan Region, Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Ingushetia.

Previously, the region's companies exported rice to Azerbaijan, Turkey and Tajikistan. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation has introduced temporary restrictions on the export of rice (from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 inclusive), after which, if partners are interested, the republican producers will export more than 2.5 thousand tons of rice grits per year.
