The chairman of the Tourism Committee of Dagestan Vitaly Demchenko presented one of the most important sections of the Great Silk Road, passing through the territory of the republic, "The Great Silk Road: Derbent at the crossroads of civilizations" at the II International Conference "Caspian region on the map of the Great Silk Road. Cross-border cooperation” held September 24-27 in Astrakhan.

Forum of Culture and Tourism brought together the representatives of governments and the tourist communities from the countries of the Caspian region: Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and China. Among the participants – the representatives of 30 Russian regions.

Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin, welcoming the participants, pointed out that the objective of the Forum was to develop new tourism products, including the tour recreating the ancient Great Silk Road. Its revival, according to the ideological plan, can unite friendly nations and trigger the development of tourism in the region.

The Forum participants also discussed the draft of the cruise on the Caspian Sea, the enhanced interaction in the sphere of culture and tourism, the expansion of humanitarian cooperation, the development of tourist exchange, integration, cultural and tourist sites in the combined international route "Great Silk Road".
