Memorial to Caucasian War participants opens in Dagestan

Makhachkala, January 23, 2017. The grand opening ceremony of the cultural and historical complex - a memorial "Ahulgo" has opened today in Untsukul district of Dagestan on the site of one of the key battles of the Caucasian war that took place in 1839.

"This is a memorial to those who did not become embittered, did not retaliate, but was able to forgive, to reconcile, to fraternize with each other for the sake of peace and prosperity of Russia and the Caucasus, the dignity and unity of Russia and the Caucasians. They were the patriots, the builders and defenders of the single homeland. This memorial is built in honor of those who continue to promote the peace and mutual understanding among the peoples of the greater Russia ", - the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov is quoted saying at the official opening ceremony of the complex.
The memorial complex will help to educate the younger generation and to strengthen civic consciousness, - Abdulatipov added.

Recall, as previously reported, the memorial "Ahulgo" represents a 17-meter high signal tower and an exhibition hall, the main exhibits of which are the reproduction of the panorama by Franz Roubaud "Taking village Ahulgo", as well as the portraits of statesmen and military leaders of the Caucasian War.
