Restoration works on Russia’s ancient mosque finished in Derbent

Derbent, July 15, 2015. The full restoration works on the most ancient mosque in Russia - the Juma mosque and the fortress Naryn-Kala in Derbent conducted within the preparation for the 2000th anniversary of the city, have recently been completed.

"As part of the restoration work the specialists repaired about 8 thousand square meters of front surface of the ancient ramparts of citadel and the southern wall. Specialists from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the leading Russian archeologists and historians have been involved in the restoration process. In total, 616.3 million rubles were allocated from the federal budget to bring the cultural heritage into a proper condition" – government spokesperson said.

Besides, seven streets of Derbent, including the central one - Pushkin Street, which suffered much during the devastating floods in 2012 have been reconstructed: in particular, specialists repaired electricity lines, replaced lighting poles and gentrified the pavements. In total repair works are carried out in 15 streets: contractor replace communication cables and pipes, asphalt pavements, install new power pylons and landscape the area. The total length of the reconstructed streets will make approx. 20 km.
