Monograph on history of Protestantism published in Dagestan

A monograph by Olga Khalidova, the senior researcher of the New and modern history department of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences has been published in the republic, the press service of the research center reports.

The monograph is devoted to the history of Protestantism in Dagestan in the context of the all-Russian history since the second half of the XIX-XXI centuries. The book is based on a wide factual material collected by the author in the archives of Russia, the Northern Caucasus and the Republic of Dagestan. Some of the documents identified are published as an attachment.

This study identifies the preconditions and reasons for the emergence of Protestantism in the national region. It covers the activities of Protestant groups in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods of the historical development of our society. Applying the method of sociological research, the author shows a “portrait” of a Protestant in modern Dagestan society and analyzes the religious well-being of believers.

The publication is addressed to historians and religious scholars, teachers of higher and secondary educational institutions, graduate students, students and a wide circle of readers interested in the history of the North Caucasus and Dagestan.
