MAKHACHKALA, October 25 – RIA "Dagestan". The Ultimate Fighting Championship has officially sanctioned an interim welterweight title bout between Brazil's Carlos Prates and Ecuador's Michael Morales.
The championship fixture will headline the UFC 336 pay-per-view event, scheduled for January 30 in Toronto, Canada. The matchup was formally disclosed during the UFC 333 broadcast in Abu Dhabi.
Due to the unavailability of the reigning division champion, Russia's Islam Makhachev, to mount a title defense in January, UFC President Dana White confirmed the introduction of the interim belt. White emphasized that the promotion remained committed to the continuous progression of the weight class, necessitating the interim championship to prevent divisional stagnation.
