BUDAPEST, July 17 – RIA Dagestan. Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov, representing Bahrain, claimed gold in the 97 kg category at the UWW ranking tournament in Budapest.
Dagestan-born wrestler dominated early rounds with technical superiority wins over Ukraine’s Ivan Prymachenko (10-0), France’s Adlan Viskhanov (12-0) and Poland’s Zbigniew Baranowski (10-0 by pin). In a dramatic final against Slovakia’s Batyrbek Tsakulov—a World and European medalist—Tazhudinov trailed late but scored a four-point throw and counterattack to win 13-7 with 25 seconds remaining.
Fellow Dagestani Dzhabrail Gadzhiev took silver at 79 kg. While Russian freestyle wrestlers are absent from this event, Russia is represented in Greco-Roman and women’s competitions.
