DERBENT, October 8 – RIA "Dagestan". A high-level delegation from the Sultanate of Oman, including Khalil Al-Rahbi, Farida Al-Kiyumi and Mohammed Hafiz, conducted a fact-finding mission to Derbent, Dagestan, facilitated by Russian State Duma Deputy Khizri Abakarov.
The itinerary focused on assessing the region's tourism infrastructure, historical assets such as the Naryn-Kala citadel, and strategic urban development projects. The Omani representatives demonstrated strong interest in coastal hospitality and religious infrastructure, specifically a proposed five-star hotel and a new mosque.
Regional authorities presented the hotel project as a cornerstone of a broader, integrated year-round resort cluster designed to diversify the local tourism economy and stimulate foreign engagement. The visit also featured a civic engagement component at the future mosque site, where delegates contributed to a "2125" time capsule art installation.
Furthermore, the delegation engaged in high-level religious diplomacy, meeting with the Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi and extending a reciprocal invitation for him to visit the Sultanate, signaling a strengthening of bilateral cultural and spiritual ties.
