Dagestan Pilots Border Vehicle Inspection in Under 10 Minutes

MAKHACHKALA, October 23 – RIA Dagestan. The presidential target to reduce standard border inspection times for cargo vehicles to 10 minutes is being successfully piloted on the country's southern borders. This has been announced at a nationwide meeting of customs service chiefs chaired by Alexey Timofeyev, Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia.

A prime example of this initiative's success is the Tagirkent-Kazmalyar highway checkpoint, located in Dagestan's Magaramkentsky District on the border with Azerbaijan. The facility is a vital link in the North-South International Transport Corridor and holds strategic importance for the development of Russia's foreign trade.

During the testing of the integrated clearance system at this specific border crossing, a processing time of 9 minutes and 40 seconds was recorded, already meeting the standard set by the head of state. This was made possible by equipping the checkpoint with a domestically produced portal-type inspection complex capable of scanning up to 120 cargo vehicles per hour.

The operational success of the Dagestan border checkpoint is the direct result of comprehensive infrastructure modernization. Under the "Efficient Transport System" national project, the facility's capacity is being scaled up by expanding the number of traffic lanes from 8 to 20. This enhancement will increase the daily throughput capacity nearly fourfold, from 600 to 2,300 vehicles.

As earlier noted by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, the initial reconstruction phases had already eliminated border queues with Azerbaijan since 2022. Furthermore, the meeting agenda included issues related to the deployment of EAIS TO 2.0, the next-generation Unified Automated Information System for Customs Authorities, aimed at streamlining cross-border administrative procedures and digitalizing customs clearance.
