MAKHACHKALA, April 29 – RIA "Dagestan." Dagestan has approved a 6-billion-ruble emergency recovery and flood prevention plan for 2026–2029. Led by Deputy Prime Minister Nariman Abdulmutalibov, a commission reviewed hydraulic infrastructure readiness and measures for safe spring-summer high waters in 2026.
Regional, federal and local agencies coordinate protective actions. The plan includes extensive riverbed clearing and dredging on rivers such as the Gvera, Tleyserukh, Kidero and Shinazchay across several districts. F
ollowing recent heavy rains, the Ministry of Natural Resources deployed around 40 specialized units to reinforce riverbanks and clear blockages on key rivers including the Terek, Cherkes-Ozen, Aktash and Ulluchay. Riverbed straightening was completed on the Samur, Shinazchay and Unsatlen rivers in vulnerable areas.
Urgent restoration of flood-control embankments along the Terek in northern districts is planned soon. The four-year preventive plan, coordinated with the Federal Agency for Water Resources, covers over 150 kilometers of waterways and exceeds RUB 6 billion in total costs.
