Key Irrigation Canal in Northern Dagestan Undergoes Cleaning Operations

KIZLYARSKY DISTRICT, April 17 – RIA Dagestan. Specialists from Dagmeliovodkhoz (Federal State Budgetary Institution "Management of land reclamation and agricultural water supply in the Republic of Dagestan") conduct cleaning operations to remove sediment and debris from the pontoon structures zone on the main "Delta" canal in Kizlyarsky District.

These measures are essential to ensure uninterrupted water flow and stable operation of hydraulic engineering structures, particularly during periods of high demand. The canal, which receives water from the Terek River via the Kargalinsky hydro-unit, serves the irrigation system covering the northern part of the republic.

Key canal specifications:

- Service area: 114,000 hectares;

- Length: 16.7 kilometers;

- Flow capacity: 160 cubic meters per second.

Timely cleaning operations will prevent blockages, reduce hydraulic failure risks, and ensure reliable water delivery to regional agricultural producers. This maintenance is critical for sustaining agricultural productivity and food security in northern Dagestan, where irrigation infrastructure supports crop cultivation and livestock farming.
