MAKHACHKALA, February 13 – RIA “Dagestan”. By the end of 2025, electricity generation in Dagestan reached 5.395 billion kWh, an increase of 298 million kWh (+5.85%) compared to 2024. Despite this growth, the republican power system continues to operate with a generation deficit.

The region fully meets its electricity demand only during May and June, when hydroelectric power plants operate at maximum capacity during the spring flood season. For the remainder of the year, the deficit is covered by electricity imports from neighboring power systems, primarily from Stavropol Krai.

According to the Energy Ministry of Dagestan, a significant step toward reducing the deficit was the commissioning of the first stage of Novolakskaya Wind Power Plant at the end of 2025, along with the planned launch of Derbent and Nogayskaya solar power plants.

"It is expected that in 2026 these facilities will provide a tangible increase in generation and help to reduce Dagestan's dependence on external electricity supplies" the ministry official reports.
