DERBENT, June 11 – RIA Dagestan. Speaking at the launch of Derbent Solar Power Plant, Renewable Energy Development Association Director Alexey Zhikharev acknowledged the republic's successes in establishing new energy generation facilities.
In his view, the launch of the new solar power plant represents a major project for the entire Russian energy sector. Zhikharev stressed that the region maked steady progress in building a comprehensive energy cluster on its territory, one that brings together solar, wind and small hydroelectric power plants.
Over the past 4 years, the republic has built more than 300 MW of capacity—approximately 5% of all capacity introduced in the country over the last ten years—the head of the Association pointed out. He also noted that in the past 3 years alone the region has broken into the top three of Russia's renewable energy investment rating, a year after being recognized as the leader in the regulatory and legal environment for the field.
He added that record-breaking projects are being implemented in Dagestan: the 300 MW Novolakskaya Wind Farm is the largest wind park in Russia, the small Samurskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant was built in record time and the current project is the largest solar park in the country utilizing new technology.
"The results achieved by the republican leadership allow me to state with assurance that green energy will keep developing vigorously in Dagestan and that the aims of energy policy will be realized" Zhikharev remarked.
