Russian Olympic Committee official meets with Daghestan ministry of sports

Makhachkala, April 22, 2014. On April 21, the head of the Department of Regional Development at the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Malyuga met with Daghestan ministry of physical culture and sports. Daghestan minister of sports Magomed Magomedov opened and chaired the meeting whose agenda included issues related to changes in the Russian Olympic Committee’s Charter and holding the Russian Olympic Day.

Anticipating the discussion, Michail Malyuga congratulated the ministry officials on success of Russian athletes at the last Olympics in Sochi. "This is the best result Russia and the USSR have ever achieved at the Winter Olympics. Now a new Olympic cycle is beginning, and the Russian Olympic Committee start preparing for the forthcoming games in Rio de Janeiro scheduled for the summer,"- he said.

Malyuga added that on April 24, they plan to hold a meeting of the Russian Olympic Committee’s Executive Committee to decide as for holding an Olympic meeting roughly on May 29. Speaking on the upcoming 25th Russian Olympic Day, Malyuga said that this year, it will be held on June 28.

"The Olympic Day will be devoted to the Russian team’s success at the Olympic Games in Sochi and the 120th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee. We expect Daghestan to activity contribute to the event,"- he said. At the end of the meeting, Malyuga reported that 60% of the profits earned in the Olympic Games in Sochi will fund development of physical culture and sports in Russia.
