Russian junior Greco-Roman wrestling championships to be tribute to Surakat Asiyatilov

Makhachkala, March 23, 2015. Russian championships in Greco-Roman wrestling scheduled to run April 10-12 in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, will be dedicated to the memory of prominent public figure, politician and scientist Surakat Asiyatilov, President of the North Caucasus Federal District Federation of Greco-Roman Wrestling Murat Paizulaev reports.

Surakat Asiyatilov paid great attention to spiritual, moral and physical education of the younger generation, promoted healthy lifestyle. He was no stranger to wrestling, either – he was the first Dagestani ever to win the title of USSR champion in freestyle wrestling and sambo, although he was also good as a Greco-Roman wrestler being one of the first promoters of this style wrestling in the republic.

Dagestan is intensely preparing for the upcoming national championships to be held at the Aliyev Sports Palace. The wrestling forum is expected to assemble around 350 athletes born 1995-1997 who will compete in 8weights: 50, 55, 60, 66, 74, 84, 96, and 120 kg.

The results of the tournament will determine the national youth team to participate in international competitions – both the European and the world championships.
