Russian crew headed by Daghestani Marat Halikov wins 1st world championship in tank biathlon

The Russian crew headed by Daghestani junior sergeant Marat Halikov won the 1st world championship in tank biathlon that ended yesterday at a military training ground near Alabino, Moscow region, said Halikov’s  relative Tazhudin Rashidov in an interview with RIA "Dagestan".  

Kizlyar’s 22-year-old tanker, a native of Charodinskiy district, was drafted into the Russian armed forces in the autumn of 2013 as a regular soldier.
The world competition brought together representatives of 12 countries’ armies: Angola, Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia, and Venezuela. Each country had 4 crews: three chief crews and an alternate. They were the 3 member teams: a commander, a gunner and a driver-mechanic.

The championship had a few steps: an individual race, a sprint race, and a pursuit race. In the standings, team Russia was the first; in the individual total, the best crew was the Russian team headed by Marat Halikov. Each member of the winning crew was awarded a modern Russian offroader by Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu. Halikov said that in this very car, he was going back home to Daghestan where his family was waiting for him.
