OLD SCHOOL MMA club opens in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, December 15, 2014. The new MMA gym opened in Makhachkala on December 11 to host sports like combat sambo, grappling, Thai boxing, jiu-jitsu, and judo.

The opening ceremony and the first training session brought together well-known domestic and foreign Dagestani MMA athletes Shamil Zavurov, Habib Nurmagomedov, Marat Magomedov, and others.

Also, the new gym will be a place for the OLD SCHOOL MMA club, and this is no random name, says Arthur Magomedov, the opener of the gym – all the attendees are his good old friends.

"I’ve done different kind of sports. I remember, it took me a long time to get to the gym. It was inconvenient and even hard to get there. There has never been a gym in the neighbourhood I live in, but lots of guys are willing to work out here. So, I decided to set up a martial arts club. I would like to mention people who helped me fulfill the idea: Rustam Madanov who provided material support and honoured coach of Russia Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov has always been there for me with good advice.

Here, I tried to create good conditions for the guys to work out. Everyone can come here and join. We invite all those willing to devote themselves to sports and hear advice by well-known fighters like Habib Nurmagomedov, Shamil Zavurov, Marat Magomedov, Eldar Eldarov, and Islam Makhachev," -Magomedov said.

Habib Nurmagomedov will also be preparing for his professional fights in the gym:

"I will come here 3 times a week to fight with my sparring partners – friends who help me prepare for professional bouts while I'm in Dagestan. Here, you can do boxing, wrestling, and even exercise in the weights room on the ground floor. The gym aims at popularizing MMA and a healthy lifestyle," - H.Nurmagomedov commented.
