Monument to legend of sports Ali Aliyev to appear in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, November 29, 2017. The monument to the legendary Soviet free style wrestler Ali Aliyev will be constructed in front of the building of the republican Ministry of Sports, on M.Yaragsky Street in Makhachkala. The monument to Ali Aliyev is made in analogue to the sculpture of the athlete installed in 2011 at the headquarters of the United World of Wrestling in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

The sculptor of both statues is the Honored Artist of Russia and the Honored Artist of Dagestan Ali Magomedov. The idea to sculp the monument to the great sportsman in the capital of Dagestan belongs to the ex-governor of the republic Ramazan Abdulatipov.

Ali Aliyev is the owner of the titles of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, the five-time world champion, the nine-time champion of the USSR, the champion of Europe. From 1990 to 1995, the athlete served as the Minister of Sports of Dagestan.

The monument to the Ministry of Transport of the republic will become the third sculpture to the outstanding sportsman in Makhachkala. The sculpture weighs 2 tons and catches  Aliyev's signature move  - a turnover with a cross-seized feet.

The first monument to the wrestler appeared in the park of the Lenin Komsomol near the sports hall. The sculptor of the composition is Geibat Geibatov. After the sports hall was given the name of Gamid Gamidov, the sculpture was moved to the small homeland of the sportsman in the village of Choh. Another monument to the athlete was installed in front of the Ali Aliyev Sports Palace in the city of Kaspiysk.
