Judoka Kamal Khan-Magomedov gains bronze medal at World Judo Championship

Makhachkala, August 27, 2014. Daghestani Kamal Khan-Magomedov became a bronze medalist of the World Judo Championship held these days in Chelyabinsk, the website of the Russian Judo Federation reports.

Khan Magomedov won a bronze medal during the second day of the competitions, on August26, in the weight category up to 66 kg.
On his way to the victory, Daghestani judoka defeated the Uruguayan Prestes, Algerian Nurin and Polish sportsman  Zagrodnik. In the quarterfinals, Kamal lost to his compatriot Michael Pulyaev and dropped out of the competition to win the championship.

In the final round Khan Magomedov gained victory over Chinese Ma and Frenchman Korval, eventually becoming the bronze medalist of the world. Having defeated Michael Pulyaev, Japanese Masashi Ebinuma won gold in this weight category.

After two days of the tournament in Chelyabinsk, Japanese sportsmen took the first place in the team standings, obtaining two gold and one silver medals. The Russian judoka is on the fourth place with the highest number of awards (0-2-2).

About 639 athletes from 110 countries participate in the competitions that come to the end on August 31.

It should be noted that Daghestanis such as Olympic champion Tagir Khaibulaev (up to 100 kg), the European champion Kamal Khanmagomedov (up to 66 kg), the winner of several international tournaments Renat Saidov (up to 100 kg)  acting for the Russian team in the individual competitions will also perform in the tournament.

In the team tournament, Russia will be also represented the two-fold European champion Sirazhudin Magomedov (up to 84 kg) and the winner of the youth World and European Championships, Magomed Magomedov (up to 90 kg).
