International boxing tournament in memory of Magomed-Salam Umakhanov kicks off in Makhachkala

Makhachkala, September 8, 2015. The International boxing tournament in memory of the prominent public figure and politician Magomed Salam Umahanov kicked off in Makhachkala on September 7.

About 133 boxers from 16 countries: Poland, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Bulgaria, Sweden, Israel, Spain, South Korea, as well as from different regions of Russia applied to take part in the tournament. Two boxing teams represent Dagestan at the tournament.

Opening the big sports event, Dagestan minister for physical culture and sports Magomed Magomedov welcomed the participants -  "Once again, the strongest teams from the CIS and foreign countries have arrived in Dagestan to compete in the uncompromising competition and to define the best athlete. It is a great honor and responsibility to host such distinguished guests, famous athletes and coaches. "

Traditionally, the athletes will compete for medals in 12 weight categories up to 49, 52, 56, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91, 91 kg. The sportswomen performed for the first time at the tournament, will fight in three weights up to 51, 60 and 75 kg.
