Makhachkala, December 10, 2014. Dagestani Habib Nurmagomedov is now on top of the in the official UFC lightweight rankings, having left behind the ex-number 1 American Gilbert Melendez who on December 6 suffered his first ever early defeat in the fight for title against the lightweight champion - another American Anthony Pettis.

It was Pettis’ first successful try to defend his title. H. Nurmagomedov who is still recovering from injury has now become one of the major title-challenger.
At a press conference after Pettis’ win, Habib Nurmagomedov, reiterating doctors’ prognosis, said that he was ready to step onto the Octagon in spring.

"I talked to the doctor, and he told me I will be able to fight in April or May"- H. Nurmagomedov said.

A journalist asked Pettis if he minded fighting with Dagestani athlete.

"It’s ok with me, let's do that," Pettis answered.

Intriguingly, Habib Nurmagomedov has had six bouts in the UFC ring and proved to be invincible.
