Daghestani wrestling team proves again to be leader in Russia – Abdussamad Gamidov

Makhachkala, July 25, 2014. Daghestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov met with winners of the Russian freestyle wrestling championships and their coaches in the government conference room, reports the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration.

44 Dagestani athletes attended the championships taking place in Yakutsk on June 19-22. Daghestani team placed first in the team standings having 3 golds, 3 silvers and 6 bronzes. Abdussalam Gadissov and Abdulrashid Sadullayev qualified for the world championships scheduled for September 6-8 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Another three athletes – Bekkhan Goygereev Magomed Kurbanaliev and Muradin Kushkhov – will take part in an international tournament in Poland where a good result can give Daghestani team some extra participants at the world championships.

Abdussamad Gamidov congratulated the winners and all participants on their good results at the competitions in Yakutsk:

 "Daghestan wrestling team has always been the leader in the number of medals in Russia, and today we have another proof to it. You are all champions, leaders, and you will set an example to the younger generation. You should show everyone how strong and well-mannered Daghestani must be."

He particularly thanked the coaches for the hard work they do and noted that Daghestani Head and government are always open and ready to provide any assistance to athletes and coaches.

1st deputy minister of physical culture and sports Zainal Salautdinov offered to raise Olympic champions’ lifetime allowance to 20,000 rubles and establish allowance for Olympics medalists and world champions. Senior coach of Daghestani team Mairbek Yussupov suggested they held the Russian freestyle wrestling championships in Daghestan. The prime minister supported the initiative and ordered to prepare a letter to be submitted to the Russian Wrestling Federation.
