Nanjing, China, August 27, 2014. Makhachkala’s Arslan Zubairov won a gold medal for the Russian team in Greco-Roman wrestling at the second Youth Olympic Games taking place now, 16-28 August, in Nanjing, China, the website of the Russian Wrestling Federation reports.
In the preliminary round of the 58 kg weight, Zubairov defeated Kazakhstan’s Rainbek Kurmanali (8: 6), New Zealand’s Matthew Downes (4: 0), and Iran’s Keramat Abdevali (9: 0). In the final, the Daghestani athlete got the silver ready for Armenian Zaven Mikaelyan (14: 4), and Iranian Abdevali placeв third in this weight.
Zubairov had qualified for the Youth Olympics by winning 2 golds of the European championships in May, 2014. Interestingly, he is the 2014 world champion, too (Poland, July 2014). Here in Nanjing, Daghestan will be also represented by Ismail Gadjiyev in the 46 kg weight.
