Daghestani Karim Magomedov wins world cup in hand-to-hand fighting

Lima, Peru, October 31, 2014. Daghestani Karim Magomedov won the gold medal for the Russian team at the world cup in hand-to-hand fighting which finished in Peru’s capital Lima earlier in the week. The tournament had attracted over 250 athletes from 15 countries.

Abdulkassim Magomedov’s trainee and son Karim in the 85 kg weight had 3 fights at the tournament. In the first fight with Argentina’s native he earned an early victory. The second fight brought him a victory over his countryman Murad Kurbanmagomedov. Another Russian athlete Alexei Volkov from Kaliningrad region was defeated by Magomedov in the final 5:0.

Now, Magomedov plans to participate in the world championships in universal fighting for law enforcement officers whose schedule is undetermined yet. Magomedov works for the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service’s office in Daghestan. He had qualified for the world championships by winning this year’s European championships in Kaluga region, Russia.

Karim Magomedov has won the title of international master of sport in hand-to-hand fighting and universal fighting. For seven years, he’s been trained by coach Mansur Uchakaev in a Wushu Sanda class in the "Dagfighter" sport club. Lately, he won the Russian championship with qualifying for the title of a master of sports in Wushu Sanda.
